We have sponsorship from Microsoft now for catering the event, which should at least cover tea and coffee for all participants for the weekend (and maybe snacks too, depending on the number of attendees).
Don't forget to book tickets at the Glyndwr University Ticketsolve website, too:http://glyndwr.ticketsolve.com/shows/873489511/eventsYou will need to have paid for a ticket as well as registered on the main GGJ site here.
Our first confirmed industry speaker is Chris Woodworth, who will talk to us about animation and character design, then be on hand for most of the weekend to offer assistance to jammers in animation. He works at Travellers Tales as a full-time animator. You can see his work on his Vimeo site:http://vimeo.com/user8901858
There's a great list of resources here. If you've never been to a Game Jam before (and I think that's most or all of us, including me!), it's probably worth taking a look at these, and maybe downloading a few of them to a laptop or similar, getting some basic proficiency with them, and bringing them along:http://www.convictinteractive.com/?p=217
We will still go ahead with the Game Jam if the building is still standing. :) But, do be aware of the weather -- the five-day forecast includes snow on Friday, so if you're travelling that day, allow plenty of time. You can park in the side car park right next to the Creative Industries building. We're expecting low temperatures all weekend, and though the building is heated, it may well get quite cold overnight, so do bring your woolly jumpers or fleeces just in case. </mum mode>
Steve (one of the registered Jammers here) has been learning Corona SDK, and brought my attention to the 3-month-free deal that's one of the promotions here:
Apparently it's a very easy-to-use app and game maker, suitable for most mobile phones. If you email them and say you're part of the GGJ, they'll get you that 3-month subscription.
We're in Room CIB108 in the CCI building (pictured), all weekend. See you soon, folks!
Anyone got any request for catering? I'm off to Sainsbury's tomorrow with a shopping list along the lines of:
Beef jerky (just in case anyone thinks they need protein to stay awake all weekend rather than just sugar and coffee)
Not-too-messy fruit (bananas and apples, probably)
Are any of our jammers available at 8.50am to chat on a BBC Wales breakfast show? It'll be done at the studio here at Glyndwr Uni. The only requirement is that the person not be a member of staff here (we've got me and one other staff member already being interviewed). Please email me if you can make it ( sturrock at gmail dot com ).
